Aims
The Geological Survey of NSW (GSNSW) was founded in 1875 and is the state’s oldest continually operating government agency. GSNSW collects and manages and delivers geoscientific data to inform the government, resource industry and community about the state's geology, and renewable, mineral, coal and petroleum resources.
GSNSW is the authoritative source of up to date knowledge about the geology, geological evolution and mineral and energy resources of NSW, and collaborates with state, national and international government agencies and scientific bodies to share skills and data and promote coherent information exchange.
GSNSW collects, manages, interprets and delivers geoscientific data and information, and provides expert geoscientific advice to support:
- exploration and mining, including attracting investment into regional NSW
- land use planning and natural resource management
- community awareness of the value and benefits of the NSW mineral and petroleum industries.
